Tread the footprints of Lord Buddha and his greatest devotees…
Rather than a religion, Buddhism is a philosophy and the marks of Buddhism are scattered throughout Nepal. Beginning at Kathmandu Buddhist shrines, Boudhnath and Swayambhunath, which are the major attractions for any tourists visiting Kathmandu, are the UNESCO enlisted World Heritage Sites. Maroon robed monks chanting the holy prayers throughout their vicinity, the influencing mudras of Buddha and the Tibtan culture at its best are the highlights of these destinations. The tour continues to Namoboudha. The ultimate pious Buddhist Shrine nestled in the mountains flanking Kathmandu is couple of hours drive from the city. The site well known in the holy books of Buddhism as a place where, Buddha in his previous life offered his body to fulfill the hunger of famished tigress and its cubs.
Lumbini, the sacred place where Lord Buddha was born, has the extreme archaeological significance and is an enlisted UNESCO World heritage site. Prince Sidhartha Gautama, who later became Buddha after enlightenment, was born in the Secret Garden of Lumbini in 6th century. It is believed that the Buddha himself have identified four places of future pilgrimage in the Parinirbana Sutta, namely the sites of his Birth, Enlightenment, first Discourage and Death. All of these events occurred under the open sky. There are many Holy places to visit in Lumbini like Secret Garden, Maya Devi Temple, Ashokan Pillar, Puskrani Pond, Nepal Buddha Temple, Lumbini Museum etc. There is also another Buddhist Pilgrimage Site in Namobuddha where the Lord Buddha sacrifices his body to hungry Tigress and its cubs.
